America’s Adult Basic Skills Gap

Tens of millions of American adults lack the basic skills needed to succeed in a global 21st century economy. Skills such as the ability to read, write, solve basic math equations, and use technology.

Making matters worse, the United States lags behind other developed countries in these areas, according to a survey of 24 member countries by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies.
