We find ourselves in an increasingly interconnected world. As educators, we have a responsibility to equip our students with the skills needed to become global citizens able to engage with the world in meaningful ways. Classroom practice should lead our students to be globally competent, with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to navigate and succeed in today’s interconnected world.
World Savvy’s mission is to integrate the highest quality of global competence teaching and learning into K-12 classrooms, so that all young people are prepared to engage, succeed, and meet the challenges of 21st century citizenship. We recognize that for young people to develop these skills, we must provide ways for educators to build them into their instruction.
There is no single path to developing the skills to effectively teach for global competence, and luckily, educators have access to an ever-increasing collection of resources and strategies — formal and informal, both online and with peers. However, for many educators teaching for global competence, the new skills they learn and demonstrate in their classrooms often go unrecognized. At World Savvy, we want to ensure that whether teachers learn online, from each other, or in programs offered by us and others in the global education space, every teacher has the opportunity to earn recognition for the global competence skills they develop.
We are thrilled to announce a new stack of micro-credentials for educators effectively employing teaching strategies for global competence. Micro-credentials recognize teachers for the skills they demonstrate, allow them to share their accomplishments in the form of digital badges, and can be used to lay a pathway for professional learning in the direction the educator wants to grow.
The initial stack features eight new micro-credentials that intentionally reflect a vision of global competence that’s shared by World Savvy as well as many other organizations and institutions working to support educators and further the goal of global competence for all.
By providing educators with recognition and pathways for teaching global competence, we hope to contribute to a dramatic growth in the number of educators who support students to engage with our interconnected world with empathy and intelligence.
