Early Childhood Learning
Building strong foundations in early learning experiences
Early Childhood Research and Innovation
High-quality early childhood experiences lay the groundwork for lifelong learning, curiosity, and well-being. Digital Promise’s early learning research examines how young children develop and thrive, with a focus on how early STEM learning builds essential foundational skills.
In partnership with educators, families, and researchers, we explore how media and technology—when paired with hands-on activities—can be integrated into early childhood settings in developmentally appropriate ways. By co-designing with diverse, low-income communities, we create meaningful bridges between home and school learning, ensuring every young child has the opportunity to explore, inquire, and grow.

Exploring Computational Thinking in Preschool Resources
Funded by the National Science Foundation, this project explores how computational thinking skills fit the interests and abilities of 3- to 5-year-olds. In partnership with SRI International, Edfinity, and Curious Media, we investigate how integrating these skills early helps young children develop effective, adaptive learning strategies.
Starting Early: Promoting Meaningful Science, Math, and Engineering in Preschool
Digital Promise, EDC, and GBH partnered with teachers and families to co-design an easy-to-use early science program that bridges learning at school and home. By integrating science with math and engineering, the program creates rich, multidisciplinary learning opportunities for young children. In a field study, preschoolers using the program showed significantly greater gains in science learning than their peers.
