Providing a personal learning device to students: During the 2014-2015 school year, the Onslow County School System began a four-year rollout of the district’s new 1:1 learning technology initiative. Onslow County’s goal is to provide all students with a learning advantage that will result in increased student achievement, improved digital citizenship, and enhanced personalized learning opportunities.
Encouraging early exposure to careers: Through the district’s “Career Tech Towers” program, students study advanced and enhanced courses to give them some specialized skills to assist them in future career exploration. By combining a series of courses following a similar pathway, these students can develop a greater appreciation for the varied skill sets that today’s jobs require.
Providing computer science education opportunities: The Onslow County School System is committed to expanding computer science initiatives throughout all 37 district schools. The district participates in the Hour of Code, has student technology assistance teams, and uses 3-D printing as an outcomes-based instructional strategy.
