Learn from this district about:

Preparing middle schoolers for global citizenship: Using internet-based educational activities, project-based learning, and other instructional strategies, Broward’s Global Scholars program connects participating middle school students to other participating schools around the world. Its goal is to provide authentic learning opportunities that develop students’ global citizenship and enhance 21st century skills.

Leveraging partnerships to strengthen the district’s computer science offerings: Through partnerships with the National Science Foundation, CODE.org, and Google, BCPS has formed a local STEM+CS Advisory Board that consists of technology businesses, multiple departments within the school district, nonprofits, and other members. The group’s charge is to inform the content of professional development and support and strengthen the community of computer science teachers.

Utilizing a learning management system for high-quality professional learning opportunities: BCPS leverages Canvas, to create the “360° Teaching with Technology” model, where educators can earn PD credits or continuing education units based on demonstrated mastery of competencies and performance-based outcomes. The benefits of the PD component include reduced isolation of teachers, better informed and committed teachers, and academic gains for students.
