As part of our robust, on-demand micro-credential ecosystem, we are proud to partner with organizations to provide pathways for personalized learning. These research-backed micro-credentials are digital certifications that verify an individual’s competence in a specific skill or set of skills, regardless of where and how they learned them. Over the last two months, we’ve launched 17 micro-credentials from our partners, and the ecosystem is growing every day.
Micro-credentials launched in August and September
The Friday Institute at North Carolina State University added a micro-credential on Self-Awareness to its Learner Variability stack. This micro-credential focuses on leveraging students’ strengths to support them with challenges related to self-awareness. It also shares strategies and tools for educators, including the Learner Variability Navigator.
The Maricopa County Education Service Agency (MCESA) has developed six new micro-credentials that address skills, feedback, and assessment strategies in the Instructional Conferencing stack.
- Know Thyself: Uncovering Leader Will Driver and Biases: In this micro-credential, school leaders uncover their motivational drivers and implicit biases, and use an analysis of both to develop differentiated support for teachers.
- Know Thy Teacher: Skill and Will Matrix Assessment: Through research-backed work products, school leaders analyze data of a teacher’s skills and disposition to provide differentiated support.
- Know Thy Plan: Using the Skill and Will Matrix to Plan an Instructional Conference: This micro-credential focuses on the school leader’s ability to identify an optimal instructional conference approach based on both the leader’s analysis of their own biases and the teacher’s skills and disposition.
- Paraphrasing to Support Active Listening: This micro-credential examines three forms of paraphrasing and provides the leader with an opportunity to demonstrate competency in this skill for the benefit of building positive and forward-moving professional relationships.
- Practice in the Post-Observation Conference: The school leader guides the teacher in practicing a high-leverage instructional skill during the post-observation conference.
- Selling the Reinforcement: Strength-Based Feedback in the Instructional Conference: Through this micro-credential, the school leader demonstrates a strength-based feedback approach in an instructional conference to benefit teacher efficacy and student learning.
The United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) launched its first micro-credential, Planning for Concept-Based Teaching and Learning. UWCSEA is one of the longest-established K-12 international schools in Singapore. Planning for concept-based teaching and learning is designed around transferable conceptual understandings, providing an effective way to develop students’ critical, creative, and reflective thinking.
