Consider having your students reflect in writing on a time when their intent did not match the impact it had on another person. After writing they can share their experience with a partner if they feel comfortable. Bring this back to expectations of discussion by reminding students even if they have good intentions during a discussion around racial equity, it matters if their words have a hurtful impact on a classmate.
