Early College High School Alumni Surveys

Part of Learning Sciences Research

With support from SAP and facilitation from Digital Promise, four technology-focused early college high schools designed alumni surveys to better understand impacts of their programming and seek advice from their previous graduates.

With support from SAP and facilitation from Digital Promise, four technology-focused early college high schools designed alumni surveys to learn how their programs shape long-term career success and personal growth.Six school community design teams—bringing together 26 adults (program coordinators, teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, parents, community/postsecondary partners, alumni) and 23 students (groups of 10th-12th graders)—came together to build an alumni survey.

The main focus of the survey was to learn how alumni were performing in their career trajectories and personal development, and seek advice for adults and students in the school community. The design team relied on alumni expertise to define what equity looks like in practice, including equitable school culture, where equity was defined as “every student receiving what they need to thrive and belong.” After testing and refinding their questions, the creators launched the survey in summer 2022, targeting 609 graduates from classes between 2015 through 2022. Nearly half of all alumni with active email addresses responded, giving 128 former students a direct voice in shaping the future of their schools.

The infographic below summarizes responses across the four schools, including value-added, postsecondary student statistics, and expected career fields.
