Providing students with sentence stems to use at first can be a helpful way to have students begin engaging with you and their peers. The following sentence stems will guide students when engaging in a critical conversation:
Teachers could print these out and hang them on classroom walls. Teachers could also engage participants by bringing in these four in as examples and then asking participants to develop additional ways to respond within the group. Teachers could then display the sentence stems from the facilitator and participants in the physical classroom space or print out a handout for participants to refer back to during discussion.
