This group of students from Edmunds Middle School in Burlington, Vt. recently participated in a comprehensive design challenge. Students designed and built functioning smart race cars. They had to think about every piece of the process that went into the final product, from sketching out the design of the car to figuring out how to safely secure a passenger. The students used design software and 3D printing to bring their creations to life and conducted some very thorough testing–complete with a rollover test! Through this project, students went through the steps of solving many small but complex problems and bringing their solutions into a final product.
