Learning Through Self-Directed Inquiry – Digital Promise

Learning Through Self-Directed Inquiry

April 4, 2016 | By

Mr. Annala, a teacher at Crossroads Middle School in Meridian, Idaho is implementing self-organized learning environments, or “SOLE” in his classes. In a SOLE, students choose their own working groups and collaborate to find solutions to an essential, research-based question. Technology allows students to direct their own research independently and follow a unique inquiry process. For example, Mr. Annala posed the question “What motivates teenagers?” Each group of students conducted their own research and came up with unique answers and solutions through their own curiosity.
