Students from both art and engineering classes at Holcomb Bridge Middle School in Alpharetta, Ga. recently went on a joint field trip to an Atlanta art museum to learn about the “A” in STEAM–art! This visit helped both groups of students understand the critical connections between art and engineering. An art museum is a living example of how these two disciplines are related and each informs the other. To students working through critical thinking, creativity is a major component of thinking like an engineer. For these future engineers and artists, understanding the big picture of STEAM will help them learn to solve problems in unique and out of the box ways.
