Since its launch in 2015, Digital Promise’s Micro-credential Platform has been an innovator and pioneer in micro-credentials for educators. In the years since, Digital Promise has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing research-backed, competency-based micro-credentials in collaboration with more than 100 issuing partners. With a current library of more than 600 micro-credentials, we have awarded more than 21,000 micro-credentials to educators across the United States and beyond.
Our Micro-credentials are:
The Micro-credential Platform was recently recognized at the 1EdTech Learning Impact Conference 2023 as a finalist in the 1EdTech Learning Impact Awards and received an honorable mention. These awards are a global competition that recognizes innovative educational technology. Competing as a competency-based innovation, our submission on Transforming Educator Development with the Digital Promise Micro-credential Platform highlighted our journey, growth, and impact through educator micro-credentials.
We are thrilled to have been recognized as a finalist by the 1EdTech community and offer our congratulations to the winners who were announced on June 6, 2023. We are also grateful to a multitude of collaborating issuing partners who have enabled us to offer our world-class repository of innovative micro-credentials for educators. All of this has led us to being recognized alongside so many wonderful nominees.
“Through this micro-credential, I was able to build upon my knowledge about behavior management and develop an intervention plan to address situations that may arise during class and more effectively develop activities in my classroom.”

Digital Promise’s platform holds a unique space in the micro-credentialing community. As a non-profit, we are committed to offering no- or low-cost micro-credentials. With a focus on educators and historically and systematically excluded learners, we ensure that all our public micro-credential content is accessible without any type of paywall or account. Due to the rigorous and research-based competency framework used to develop micro-credentials, these badges can only be earned through a robust portfolio of evidence of performance and skill implementation that is evaluated by independent subject-matter experts. By including opportunities for self-reflection, learners are encouraged to engage in a continuous improvement process of growth. Furthermore, our platform is learning agnostic and honors the diverse paths in which they can acquire skills through formal, informal, in-person, on-demand, job-embedded, or self-directed learning.
“Micro-credentials can be beneficial because they are self-paced and require teachers to think deeply about their practices and to try out new strategies in their classrooms. Teachers have the freedom to choose their own professional learning opportunities and focus on specific areas of interest.“
– First grade educator
Because our micro-credentials verify the implementation of a skill or set of competencies, educators are able to engage in a directed practice of transforming their instructional practice with research-based strategies. These techniques and strategies are often innovative and support the diverse needs of historically and systematically excluded learners. Educators who earn Digital Promise micro-credentials provide a multiplier effect—not only do they positively impact the instruction of current students, but also any future students they might have. As change agents, they often influence the practice of the local school community.
“Micro-credentials have supported my practice by providing me with a pathway to focus on a specific professional development goal without the regulated stress of a formal class.”
