In this Watershed Sleuth Challenge, high school students learn more about their watershed—what it is, why it’s important, and what they can do to help protect it, as they earn badges at each level of this three-part course. Students can independently navigate the three parts, requiring only an internet connection and the “thirst” for watershed knowledge. Lesson one focuses on watershed basics, while lesson two delves into habits we may have at home that can threaten water quality, as well as what to do to help minimize these threats. Lesson three builds on this knowledge, encouraging sleuths to take what they’ve learned and apply it in their communities, whether that’s by visiting a local park or organizing a community cleanup. Students earn all three badges to become a Watershed Hero and help protect the watersheds they call home.
