What Does It Mean to Be a Nature Superhero?

Learning Studio in Niagara Falls, Canada

October 24, 2016 | By

As part of a science unit on plants, soils and environment, students at James Morden School in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada are exploring what it means to be a Nature Superhero – and not just in the abstract.

Melissa McKinney-Lepp’s 3rd graders are working to educate others in their community and beyond about the savannah plains, mature forests, and wetlands in their region. Combining Scratch, Makey Makeys, 3D sculptures on a Dremel printer, and “phygital art” (using Sprout marketplace and actual photos from the forest), students are using their Learning Studio tools to build an interactive art exhibition to raise awareness and teach others about the science and beauty of their local ecosystem.
