Education leaders seeking to improve learning outcomes for English Learners have started exploring ways to leverage edtech tools to meet students’ diverse cultural and linguistic needs. Research suggests this approach has promise, but with so many edtech options and limited evidence on their impact, many district leaders need help determining which tools best meet the needs of their particular English Learner population.
To learn more about the use of edtech tools to better support English Learners, Digital Promise worked with two League of Innovative Schools districts throughout the 2016-2017 academic year to pilot two edtech products: Achieve3000 and BrainPOP ESL. In our new report, Rapid Cycle Pilots: Using Edtech to Support English Learners, we share key findings on how these and other products can support English Learners, and offer tips for implementing successful edtech pilots.
While both districts sought edtech tools to meet different goals, results from each district found that two factors are paramount to English Learners’ success with tools:
- Collaborating when considering of the most appropriate edtech tool to address an identified need; and
- Maintaining open lines of communication and feedback with edtech providers to continuously improve the products available in the market.
