Supporting EdTech Developers

AI-powered edtech must be designed responsibly to benefit all learners. Digital Promise’s Responsibly Designed AI product certification recognizes products that reduce algorithmic bias, label generative AI content, protect data privacy, and support educator agency.

Earning the Responsibly Designed AI certification demonstrates that the edtech developers designed the AI in the product to reduce algorithmic bias, provide transparency about data collection and security, include labeling of generative AI content, and equip educators with agency while engaging with AI outputs.

Digital Promise has partnered with 1EdTech, CAST, CoSN, InnovateEDU, ISTE, and SETDA to develop guidance to help schools and districts determine if an edtech product is of sufficient quality to be used by teachers and students. Based on years of research and input from education leaders, policymakers, and industry experts, we agree on Five Edtech Quality Indicators that should be used to evaluate effective edtech products: safe, evidence-based, inclusive, usable, and interoperable.

Opportunities abound for software designers and developers to create impactful edtech tools for teachers, school leaders, students, and their families. This guide for developers, startups, and entrepreneurs addresses key questions about the education ecosystem and highlights critical needs and opportunities to develop digital tools and apps for learning. Crowd-sourced from knowledgeable educators, developers, and researchers, this guide is designed to help entrepreneurs apply technology in smart ways to solve persistent problems in education.

Digital Promise is excited to announce the upcoming launch of A Framework for Powerful Learning with Emerging Technology, with funding from Google. We are developing this framework through a combination of leveraging existing research, guidance and thought partnership from a diverse working group of specialists, and feedback from experts across the field. Through our design process, we aim to bring high quality, cutting-edge research to readers’ fingertips, highlighting the key learnings and articulating action-based insights.
