To prepare teachers for meaningful technology integration, the learning lab teacher led professional development sessions and provided one-on-one support. This approach ensured teachers acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to utilize advanced tools like virtual reality, augmented reality, and 3D printers.

Austin Middle School’s strategy aligned with three key indicators:

  1. Equity-Focused Professional Development. The learning lab teacher tailored support and development to each teacher’s specific needs.
  2. Digital Tool Integration. Teachers collaborated to identify the most appropriate tools for their lessons. For example, virtual reality headsets were used to enhance learning in literacy classes.
  3. Encouragement of a Digital Growth Mindset. Teachers reflected on how technology integration improved both their own experiences and those of their students.
