Operation Connectivity (OpCon)

Operation Connectivity aimed to overcome the barriers of inadequate device availability, insufficient internet connectivity, and economic constraints that disproportionately affected students in rural and low-income households. By providing comprehensive solutions, including free high-speed internet, affordable digital devices, and digital literacy support, Operation Connectivity sought to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all Texas students could continue their education without disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYSAFAH Digital Equity Initiative

The NYSAFAH/HNY launched a series of programs to create greater digital equity for residents of affordable housing. The program addressed the lack of high-speed internet infrastructure, affordability and access for education, and workforce participation in affordable and subsidized housing units.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of their plans for closing the digital divides that hinder education, economic opportunities, and access to essential services, Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) has taken steps to begin implementing the state’s Digital Opportunity Plan, which explicitly integrates their digital goals with education and workforce priorities.

Durham Housing Authority (DHA) Campus Network Project

The Durham Housing Authority (DHA) Campus Network Project was launched to provide high-quality, free in-unit internet access to DHA residents. These residents faced significant challenges in accessing affordable and reliable in-home internet. The initiative focused on leveraging municipal and private partnerships to connect residents to the City of Durham’s fiber broadband network, thereby addressing the high cost of internet services and ensuring digital equity.
