Supporting historically underserved students through 1:1 digital transformation: This initiative has effectively promoted equity for all students, regardless of socioeconomic or historically underserved status, while increasing access to computer science and digital learning by providing flexible and mobile learning opportunities for every student. Additionally, the district’s English language learners (ELL) and individualized education program (IEP) students now have tailored apps and software that enables them to personalize their learning and maximize their opportunities.
Creating an environment of collaboration and entrepreneurship: Through open-access makerspaces, students have become more collaborative and empowered to solve real-world problems for authentic audiences. Students have started forming businesses to market their own artistic products.
Building global competence in students: Middle school students dive deeply into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 100 People World Portrait project to develop a global perspective and to discover a problem that they are passionate about solving. Students work collaboratively and access high-quality research sources to propose and design solutions that address relevant, authentic global issues, and by so doing, become more empathetic to the world around them.
