Defenses of Learning: In our district, all students in grades 5, 8, and 12 are required to give a Defense of Learning Presentation at the end of the school year. This opportunity asks students to reflect on their learning, provide evidence to prove they have improved in areas, and identify areas in which they need to grow. Students are also asked to think about their future, set goals for the future, and explain how they will work to meet those goals.
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities: Each of our schools provides numerous co-curricular and extracurricular activities which encourage students to find “their place” and find their passions. Clubs, community visits, CTE programs, sports, and various organizations are encouraged for students. Our educators do a great job of listening to student voices in these areas as well. For example, our high school recently created an e-sports club after students asked for this opportunity.
