Learn from this district about:

District and School Exhibitions of Learning: These events provide students with the opportunity to spotlight their learning in a variety of ways. Students are also asked to share passion projects during these events. This allows for students to “shine” in ways other than paper/pencil assignments/assessments. It also helps to build students’ confidence and helps them realize that they do have strengths and characteristics that they can lean into in order to be successful.

Defenses of Learning: In our district, all students in grades 5, 8, and 12 are required to give a Defense of Learning Presentation at the end of the school year. This opportunity asks students to reflect on their learning, provide evidence to prove they have improved in areas, and identify areas in which they need to grow. Students are also asked to think about their future, set goals for the future, and explain how they will work to meet those goals.

Co-curricular and extracurricular activities: Each of our schools provides numerous co-curricular and extracurricular activities which encourage students to find “their place” and find their passions. Clubs, community visits, CTE programs, sports, and various organizations are encouraged for students. Our educators do a great job of listening to student voices in these areas as well. For example, our high school recently created an e-sports club after students asked for this opportunity.
