Early College Programs: Spartanburg has created several early college programs through local partnerships that enable students to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and college credit. The Valkyrie Middle College opened this year to create a pipeline of future educators who graduate with up to 30 hours of college credit from Converse College.
1:1 mobile learning initiative: Each school year, students in K5 and first-grade receive an iPad and students in grades 2-12 receive a MacBook Air. The goal is to use the device to promote more in-depth, student-engaged learning facilitated by a caring and highly competent teacher. The 1:1 initiative significantly impacts our most disadvantaged families who have never had a computer in their household.
Extending School days: At the Cleveland Academy of Leadership students attend school for 25 days longer than those at other schools in the district in order to give teachers extra time with some of the district’s most at-risk students.
