Creating college and career academies: The Sunnyside Unified School District’s commitment to helping students prepare for their futures has led to the creation of College and Career Academies at each school. The model requires students to select an academy (broad in scope) by the end of their freshmen year, allowing the district to provide a more individualized high school experience and assist students in seeing graduation as the beginning and not the end.
Migrating from supscription content to Open Educational Resources (OER): The district recognizes that all classes are different, and textbooks do not necessarily provide the most relevant learning opportunities for students. The district is implementing a Common Core-aligned OER curriculum in grades 6-11, and will create curriculum guides and adjusted assessments using these resources.
Facilitating pedagogy-led digital learning: The district is a leader in leveraging technology to enhance teacher instruction, not replace it.
