Creating an online teaching platform: The iLearnNYC program allows teachers to create online lessons and courses, track student progress, and interact online with students.
Building collaboration between education stakeholders: The iZone Innovate NYC Schools initiative supports collaboration between education stakeholders (i.e., educators, administrators, district staff, students, and parents) and the creators/makers of education technology products through one-time events, design-based challenges, and pilots lasting several months.
Developing a Bring-Your-Own-Device program: The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) is focused on ensuring that all students have consistent access to technology, so in March 2015 the district started allowing students to bring their own devices for use in the classroom.
Fostering STEM programming: NYCDOE’s Computer Science for All initiative is focused on increasing access to STEM and computer science education for all students by partnering with organizations that will offer professional learning opportunities to train nearly 5,000 teachers across all schools and providing programs that allow students to gain exposure to the STEM field.
