Learn from this district about:

Providing personalized blending learning (PBL) opportunities: A typical Utica Community Schools (UCS) K-2 PBL classroom incorporates developmentally appropriate digital content (apps) matched to each child’s needs to promote enhanced learning opportunities and college readiness.

Promoting digital citizenship: In partnership with Common Sense Media, the district has been integrating digital citizenship concepts into its K-12 programs and its staff members are recognized nationally for their commitment to promote safe and effective use of digital resources by students.

Expanding computer science education: The district and Code.org have partnered to expand opportunities for UCS students in computer science through elementary media centers and district math and science courses.

Building a virtual reality lab: UCS is transforming STEM education for its students through Virtual Reality Labs at four elementary schools which will blend the real world with the virtual, allowing students to collaborate on activities ranging from exploring the inner workings of the human heart to designing and building circuit boards or examining the physics of the world’s tallest buildings, all in a 3-D environment.

Blending rigorous academics with real-world applications: Utica Center for Science and Industry positions students for future high-tech jobs by preparing students for postsecondary experiences in engineering technology, mechatronics (“smart” robotics), and multimedia production fields.
