David Conover is a learning experience designer at Connally High School in Austin, Texas.
David started his career as an entrepreneur. Having founded multiple start-up internet companies, he helped develop the streaming media codec in Seattle. He then left the start-up world to create an arts, humanities, and VR curriculum for high school students. The curriculum later became the framework for a serious video game design program for at-risk teens. As an HP Teaching Fellow, David is excited to explore how teachers and students use emerging technologies to solve global challenges.
“Explore the implementation of A.I. in the 9-12 classroom environment and curate an appropriate toolkit/micro-credential cookbook, specifically in the applications of digital media and video game design. My A.I. in space remix strategy connects to powerful learning in these ways: Powerful learning is authentic and challenging, and I connect our design experiences around learning particular UNESCO topics or challenges. In this instance, the authentic and challenging case is in space.”
“Making Thinking Visible by Ron Ritchhart, Mark Church, Karin Morrison helped shape my thinking because it matched my personal and instructional goals in using thinking routines in the digital media and video game design classroom. My thinking goals include innovating deeper content understanding, greater motivation for learning; development of learner’s thinking abilities; and developing a community of enthusiastically engaged thinkers and learners through culture and content creation.”
“I would like to have a student of mine tell me after 20 years about an impactful learning experience that he had had, and I think an example of that would be that currently we’re working with students in Lithuania that will allow our students here in Austin to collaborate and solve a global problem. And in doing so, students are going to find out what skills they have, and what tendencies they have that might lead them to a career based on their interests.”
“Reach out to me if you are interested in talking about Learning Experience Design and Serious Video Game Design or Games for Social Change.”
