Allison Modica - Digital Promise

Allison Modica

“I am definitely a hands-on learner and learn best by watching other people! I believe trial and error builds confidence and competence in one’s skills and helps develop muscle memory through repetition.”

Prior to joining Digital Promise, Allison worked at the Edcamp Foundation, where she designed and implemented systems to support the work of scaling the organization to bring the Edcamp model of professional development to educators nationwide. As a start-up nonprofit, the Edcamp Foundation supported 500 Edcamps annually, building a community of educators that transcends local districts. Having worked in the Philadelphia non-profit sector for 15 years, Allison has a passion for building communities for good. As the associate director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Philadelphia, she was instrumental in building partnerships with Family Court, child welfare leadership, and legal advocates, securing program funding, and training and supporting community volunteers to serve hundreds of children in foster care. Using CASA’s volunteer model, she collaborated with educational advocates to create the city’s first Education Decision-Maker Program, pairing trained community volunteers to serve as legal guardians advocating for foster children’s educational needs.

Allison’s experience includes: adjunct faculty at Temple University’s School of Social Work; Director of the Outcomes in Behavioral Health Project at the Support Center for Child Advocates; project associate of research-based program models and service-delivery strategies for the Philadelphia Department of Human Services; author of “Transforming Philadelphia’s Child Serving Systems: A Call to Action for the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services” for the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania; and a social worker for the Family Advocacy Unit of Community Legal Services.

Allison holds a B.A. in Journalism from Penn State University, and a Master’s of Social Service and a Master’s of Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Service and Social Research. She can be reached at amodica@digitalpromise.org.
