Plan Ceibal is an ambitious initiative undertaken by the government of Uruguay beginning in 2007 to provide all students in Uruguay with a laptop and internet connectivity. The program is hailed as one of the most comprehensive national education technology programs in the world, not only providing devices but also training teachers and implementing an ongoing monitoring and evaluation program. In 2013, Plan Ceibal led Uruguay’s participation in the global partnership New Pedagogies for Deep Learning, aiming to increase the development of key deep learning skills in schools and measure that development as it relates to the country’s technology initiative.
