Providing competency-based education through interdisciplinary instruction: Kettle Moraine School District (KMSD) recognizes that every student in every class will not be on the same page at the same time and uses digital tools to recognize and respond to a student’s individual needs.
Building makerspaces: KMSD has a makerspace in every school building, with the stated goal of providing opportunities to learn without boundaries, to experiment, build, take risks, make mistakes, and learn as they go.
Developing flexible learning spaces in all schools: In spring 2014, KMSD won a $49.6 million bond referendum to make improvements to six schools, which the district is using in part to create spaces for students to work in small groups, invest in classroom furniture that molds and adjusts to fit multiple types of learning, and upgrade libraries and activity centers to meet the demands of digital education.
