Learn from this district about:

Fostering a regional network to improve student outcomes across district: Through the Appalachia Resource Initiative, LCSD is one of 17 rural school districts that made the commitment to share resources and professional learning opportunities; work to affect policy and protocol; and to connect learners to highly effective teachers every day.

Partnering with the community to get students ready for school: To ensure all students are ready to start the school year, LCSD invites 50 social service agencies and organizations to attend Readifest, an event where local groups provide school supplies for children and information on services for parents. Parents and families also receive help with health care, job opportunities, medical services, GED services, and much more.

Empowering teachers to prepare students for college and career: The “Gear Up” program provides professional learning opportunities to teachers and gives them the tools to help prepare students for the future through life skill and college application training, college tours, and other types of enrichment opportunities.
