In this lesson, teachers will reintroduce organization with a focus on the parts of an argument, how the parts of an argument should be organized, and using transition words to clarify an argument. Following a brief teacher-led presentation, students will receive differentiated worksheets guiding them through individual revisions of their organization and use of transition words depending on their rubric and Signal Check level. This lesson can be taught either to a small group of students or the whole class, depending on need.
In this lesson, the teacher and students will analyze a sample first draft, sample feedback, and a sample revision of an argumentative essay focusing on organization. The Teacher will model suggesting revision strategies and students will participate in large and small group collaboration to suggest additional revisions. Students will then review the impact of revisions based on teacher comments in a sample revision.
