Digital Promise hosts national convenings of the League of Innovative Schools in the fall and spring each year. League convenings are co-hosted by a League member district and are open to current League members, their district leaders, and Digital Promise partners. Attendees see innovation in action, connect with fellow League members, dive into emerging topics in education, and gain ideas and applications for their own district.
Located in Nassau County, New York, Mineola Public Schools has five schools serving approximately 2,900 students across five municipalities. The mission of Mineola Public Schools is to inspire each student to be a life-long learner, pursue excellence, and exhibit strength of character and contribute positively to a global society. Mineola Public Schools stands as a pioneer in education, actively implementing transformative initiatives such as dual language programs, cutting-edge computer science and cybersecurity programs, and a reimagined approach to high school. Notably, Mineola Public Schools has been at the forefront of educational innovation, being among the first in the state to introduce a comprehensive computer curriculum beginning in kindergarten and leading the charge in digital student portfolios.
Dr. Michael Nagler is the superintendent of the Mineola Public Schools, a suburb of New York City. Dr. Nagler began his career as a social studies teacher in New York City. While teaching, he earned his doctorate from Columbia University and accepted an administrative position with Mineola in 1999.
He believes strongly in the district’s mission to inspire students to become lifelong learners who exhibit strength of character and contribute positively to a global society. During his twenty-three years with the district, he has been a big proponent of using technology to engage students in rigorous content. All five schools in Mineola Public Schools have been recognized as an Apple distinguished school. Mineola Public Schools has been a member of the League of Innovative Schools since 2014, and Dr. Nagler is the chairperson of the League Advisory Board.
Dr. Nagler was the 2020 New York Superintendent of the Year and was a Finalist for the 2020 National Superintendent of the Year. He recently published a book entitled: The Design Thinking, Entrepreneurial, Visionary Planning Leader – a Practical Guide for Thriving in Ambiguity.
