Through the Years – Digital Promise

Through the Years

Since its founding in 2011, the League of Innovative Schools has maintained its mission and vision of connecting and supporting the most forward-thinking leaders in education, all of whom are bound by their commitment to equity and innovation.

While the League’s mission has never changed, the network’s composition, membership, initiatives, projects, collective efforts, and more have adjusted to meet the moment, equipping our superintendents with the latest tools and resources to lead.

The result is a long legacy of impact that has not only transformed the work happening across League districts, but has also created replicable, scalable models with the potential to transform teaching and learning approaches across the country and around the world.

Take a look at some key milestones of League impact over the years.

A Legacy of Impact

2011

The League of Innovative Schools (League) was established with 24 public school district leaders, the same year that Digital Promise was launched.

2013

The League hosted its first-ever convening in New York City, bringing together members from around the country together to collaborate, connect, and learn through professional learning sessions, networking, and school visits. The League now offers bi-annual convenings and has hosted 20 convenings to-date.

2017

A multi-year effort was launched alongside League districts to create a Competency-based Education (CBE) Toolkit and document and share lessons learned from their CBE implementation journey.

2018

In conjunction with Digital Promise’s Challenge Map, Challenge Collaboratives were launched across the League and ran through 2020, with the goal of creating impactful scalable solutions.

The Data Ready Playbook–launched as part of the Data Equity and Interoperability Project–was created in partnership with League districts to support districts with creating an effective interoperable data solution that allows them to identify and address equity gaps.

2019

The League grew to 114 districts across 34 states, representing the largest reach since its founding.

2020

Fifty-seven districts participated in Challenge Collaboratives: Real World Learning, Assessment Data Interoperability, Computational Thinking Pathways, OER Deeper Learning and CT for NGSS (Next Gen Science Standards).

Digital Promise’s Center for Inclusive Innovation is launched, partnering closely with League districts to co-design inclusive R&D alongside communities.

2021

Digital Promise celebrated 10 years of powerful networks by welcoming 37 diverse districts to the League, the largest cohort ever.

The League helped to co-create and support the inaugural Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit, which brought together high school students from League districts across the country to advocate for the type of learning environments that they want to see.

Digital Promise hosted the first League on the Hill event, in which district leaders met with legislative representatives to advocate for increased education funding.

2022

Digital Promise created the League of Innovative Students, which was launched under the guidance of a newly formed student advisory council.

The first cohort of the League of Innovative Students completed research and development with the Center for Inclusive Innovation.
