Application Deadline

About

You are invited to join Digital Promise in our new implementation cohort that will examine challenges and promising practices to address the educational needs of newcomer students (those with limited or interrupted formal education - immigrants and refugees). This cohort is open to 15-20 teams from city education systems around the world and will take place from September 2025 – January 2027.

As members of the cohort, all participating teams will:

  • Create a problem of practice with guidance from Digital Promise’s Center for Inclusive Innovation team;
  • Leverage CII’s Design Studios to co-design potential strategies and solutions with community members;
  • Engage in exclusive learning workshops directly related to their problems of practice and led by experts (virtual);
  • Participate in an international study tour to Portugal to see promising practices in action; and
  • Share lessons and best practices with other cohort members and the broader K-12 field.

The workshops will focus on student-centered strategies around community building and communication, fostering inclusive instruction and pedagogy, supporting teacher preparedness, and promoting the wellbeing, safety, and success of newcomers. As with all of Digital Promise’s previous cohorts, these topics will be continuously refined with input from the participants. An asset-based framing will be utilized for the work of the cohort, recognizing newcomers and their families as valuable contributors to their communities rather than challenges to be addressed. We will focus on building a cohesive vision for communities that includes the contributions and voices of newcomer families.

What are participating teams expected to commit to?

As part of the implementation cohort, participants are expected to attend monthly virtual workshops or sessions (60-90 min each). In addition, district teams will commit to tackling a problem of practice and executing their action plans throughout the duration of the cohort with support from the Digital Promise team.

Application Criteria

Applications for this implementation cohort will be considered on a rolling basis. Final decisions will be shared by September 15.
