We are thrilled to welcome Thomas C. Murray, director of innovation for Future Ready Schools, as the keynote speaker for the League of Innovative Schools 2024 Convening.

Director of Innovation, Future Ready Schools
After serving at the elementary and secondary levels as both a teacher and a principal, and then at the district level, Thomas C. Murray now serves as the director of innovation for Future Ready SchoolsⓇ, a project of the All4Ed, located in Washington, D.C. He has testified before the United States Congress and works alongside the U.S. Senate, the White House, the U.S. Department of Education and state departments of education, and school districts throughout the country to implement student-centered learning. Murray serves as a regular conference keynote, was named one of “20 to Watch” by NSBA, the “National/Global EdTech Leader of the Year” in 2018, the “Education Thought Leader of the Year” in 2017, and the “Education Policy Person of the Year” by the Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015. School Visit Pathways

Neuroscience for Early Learners

You will visit Mineola’s early childhood buildings (Hampton Street School and Meadow Drive School, both PK-2) and observe the youngest students in Mineola learning about their brains and understanding how their brains grow and neurons connect! Witness how students are developing a deep-rooted growth mindset based on the principles of neuroscience.

Badges and Scales

You will see learners at Hampton Street School (PK-2) and Jackson Avenue School (3-5) take charge of their own learning! Students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and what to do next. Jump into Mineola’s Badge Book and see how they make all learning visible!

Dual Language

You will see biliteracy skills in action and even learn some Spanish! You will see Mineola learners at Meadow Drive School (PK-2) and Mineola Middle School (5-7) participate in literacy activities in both languages and use strategies such as “Total Physical Response” to strengthen their multilingual brains!

Computer Science

You will see coding in action at Mineola High School and Hampton Street School (PK-2). Elementary learners start the coding process using “Color by Code” and robots to build foundations in sequencing and logic. All high school students take Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles and can continue with robotics, cybersecurity, and programming languages.

SEL

You will see learner-led community activities at Mineola Middle School (5-7) and Jackson Avenue School (3-4) designed to build and strengthen self and social awareness, management, and relationship skills. Elementary learners use Learner Portfolios and older learners use the Middle School Playbook to reflect on those skills.

Genius Hour

You will see learners at Mineola Middle School (5-7) and Jackson Avenue School (3-4) exploring their passions through the creation of a product that will impact others and can be shared with the world. These learners are experiencing personalized learning through self-driven projects focused around the “6 P’s” of Genius Hour (passion, plan, pitch, project, product, and presentation).

Engage with Purpose

You will visit vibrant middle school and high school classroom environments where purposeful practices drive student engagement and autonomy. You will observe Mineola learners actively participating in self-assessment using learning intentions and success criteria, engaging in impactful conferencing, and employing effective thinking routines.

Fab Lab

You will see learners at Mineola High School and Mineola Middle School (5-7) using the design thinking process to create and test prototypes in Mineola’s Fabrication Laboratories. Resources available include a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, CNC router, plasma cutter, 3D printer, Cricut, and a welding station.

Industry Certifications

You will see learners obtaining healthcare and business certifications at the Synergy Program at Mineola High School. Learners have opportunities to gain rigorous and relevant industry recognized certifications before graduating high school. Learners are empowered to break out of their designated and predetermined “likes” and explore various fields out of their comfort zone without worrying about the traditional constraints of grades or schedules.

Synergy

You will see learners at the Synergy Program and Mineola High School engaging in a new structure of high school that redefines space, time, and pace. Learners co-create their plan to meet their individual needs through seminars, workshops, skill groups, office hours, and more. You will see learners discovering their purpose and building their self efficacy, agency, and skills that will prepare them for life, now and after high school.

Attendance Details and Fees

Due to rising event costs, and in an effort to continue to offer the most engaging and experiential League convening possible, we will be charging a fee for attendees to register, with the exception of League superintendents. Superintendents are still invited to bring up to two (2) guests from their district to attend, but they will need to pay a registration fee. We will offer different registration fees based on registrant type, including a special early bird registration rate for all registrant types. Please note that any special pricing – whether the superintendent complimentary ticket or early bird pricing – is non-transferable.
