Effectiveness of the Learner Variability Navigator to Support Development and Implementation of Whole Child Strength- based IEPs
Digital Promise’s Learner Variability Project (LVP) is excited to offer an upcoming opportunity to participate in a study with our working group, Creating and Implementing IEPs With the Learner Variability Navigator. Working groups are Digital Promise-led projects that provide opportunities for teachers, schools, and districts to contribute as subject-matter experts to a product or deliverable.
Challenge:
IEPs are only as effective as their implementation. The Creating and Implementing IEPs With the Learner Variability Navigator Working Group is focused on leveraging the IEP process to transform education for students with learning differences and ADHD.
This one-year study will determine the effectiveness of the Learner Variability Navigator (LVN), a free web app, in supporting teachers in writing strength-based whole-child IEPs and in implementing LVN strategies to support students with learning differences and ADHD.
What You Will Do:
General Education and Special Education teachers will form a “practice-to-research” community where they contribute to the development of the LVN and associated IEP resources as subject-matter experts. Activities will include: Participating in strength-based whole child IEP professional learning based on LVP’s Guidebook to Create Strength-based and Whole Child IEPs, which was co-designed with teachers. Designing and implementing strength-based whole child IEPs, leveraging the LVN as a resource. Sharing artifacts (e.g. de-identified IEPs, lesson plans) with the community and Digital Promise researchers. Participating in surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
Time Commitment:
This study is anticipated to begin in September 2025 through April 2026, with monthly commitments of approximately three to six hours. As a thank you for your time commitment, participating schools will receive $1000 and participating teachers will receive up to $600.
We are seeking participation from four schools, with two teachers from each school—one Special Education (SPED) teacher and one General Education (Gen Ed) teacher. This opportunity is specifically geared toward educators who are involved in writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as well as those responsible for implementing IEPs in the classroom.
