Instructional Coaching for Tech-Enhanced Approaches in Mathematics (iCoachTEAM)

The Instructional Coaching for Tech-Enhanced Approaches in Mathematics (iCoachTEAM) program is hosting a 4-day professional development institute on mathematics coaching just outside of Chicago. We invite school districts from across the U.S. to send up to 2 instructional coaches who coach mathematics teachers to attend the iCoachTEAM 2025 Summer Institute. Depending on available space and interest, additional coaches may also be able to attend.

iCoachTEAM is a professional development program designed for coaches working with middle school math teachers to enhance technology-driven instruction for promoting conceptual understanding and conducting formative assessment. iCoachTEAM adapts the widely used, subject agnostic, Impact Cycle to specifically address mathematics instruction for students who are testing 1 year or more below grade level. Coaches who participate in iCoachTEAM learn to implement a “mathified” Impact Cycle that provides coaches and teachers research-based supports and resources for high quality mathematics instruction (for example, 12 High Impact Instructional Strategies to promote student conceptual understanding and teacher formative assessment in math).

What will coaches learn at the iCoachTEAM Summer Institute?

The iCoachTEAM Summer Institute will provide opportunities for math coaches to:

• Learn about the "Mathified" Impact Cycle from Jim Knight’s Instructional Coaching Group and the Math Education Research Team at Digital Promise.
• Learn about 12 High Impact Instructional Strategies to promote student conceptual understanding and teacher formative assessment in math.

When is the iCoachTEAM Summer Institute?

• The 4-day institute will take place from 9:00 am CT - 4:00 pm CT each day from August 4-7, 2025. Coaches should arrive on Sunday, August 3 and depart on Friday, August 8. If a coach must depart on Thursday, August 7, they may book a flight with a departure time after 7:00 pm CT. 

Application Criteria

Who should attend the iCoachTEAM Summer Institute?

This workshop is designed for individuals who play a crucial role in the oversight, support, and implementation of mathematics coaching programs within their districts. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Mathematics Instructional Coaches (K-12)
• Mathematics Teacher Leaders (K-12)
• Mathematics Curriculum Coordinators
• Assistant Principals with Mathematics Coaching and Instruction Oversight
• Administrators responsible for the development, implementation, and support of the district's mathematics program.

Note: The specific title or role of an individual may vary across districts. The key criterion is that the attendee possesses responsibilities related to the improvement of mathematics instruction and coaching.

Where is the iCoachTEAM Summer Institute?

• The institute will take place in Oak Park, IL, just outside of Chicago.

What costs will be covered by the iCoachTEAM project?

Coaches who attend the entire 4-day event (9:00 am - 4:00 pm every day from August 4-7) will receive the following:

• Hotel for up to 5 nights at the conference hotel.
• Reimbursement for food costs, including on travel days, according to the U.S. government per diem rate.
• A stipend of $60/hour for 6 hours of PD each day for the 4 day institute.

What costs will need to be covered by the district?

• Districts must provide coaches with travel and transportation to and from the conference hotel in Oak Park, IL.

How many mathematics coaches may attend?

• Space is limited, so each interested district may send up to 2 mathematics coaches, with the possibility of additional coaches attending depending on availability.
