Are there educators in your district eager to explore how technology, particularly generative AI, can enhance reading instruction for multilingual learners? We’re seeking dedicated reading teachers, coordinators, and specialists from your school district to join our U-GAIN Reading Leader Cohort Program – a transformative pilot cohort program to explore how generative AI can support the reading development of multilingual learners.
This is a unique chance for educators to be part of an exciting national effort to improve literacy outcomes for English learners and help shape the future of AI-powered learning tools.
Opportunity Description
As a U-GAIN Reading National Leader cohort member, educators from your district will play a vital role in exploring how generative AI can support reading instruction for multilingual learners. Through this collaborative effort, educators will:
By working together, we aim to develop innovative solutions that can be scaled across districts to support multilingual learners in achieving reading success.
What are the benefits of participating in the U-GAIN Reading Leader Cohort Program?
Background
Digital Promise has been awarded an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) grant to launch and lead the Using Generative Artificial Intelligence for Reading R&D Center (U-GAIN Reading).
This research and development hub will investigate how teachers can use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to improve elementary school reading instruction for English learners (ELs).
U-GAIN Reading’s focus on ELs responds to an important education policy goal: Only 33% of ELs meet the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Basic reading level, compared to 67% of all fourth-grade students. Teachers are essential to learning to read, but often cannot spend as much time with each individual student as needed.
U-GAIN Reading will design and study an educational technology reading intervention to see how adapting the intervention to students’ strengths and needs can be used to increase reading fluency and comprehension. U-GAIN Reading will also provide National Leadership on this theme, for example, by sharing exemplary readings, speakers, and insights.
Seeking Early Learning Classroom Educators, EL Educators, Reading Specialists, and EL Specialists who support multilingual students learning to read and/or use digital learning platforms to do so.
